botox in the bladder

Botox is a form of botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin works by blocking the release of a chemical needed for nerve transmission. As a result, the nerve signals that tell your bladder to contract are blocked. This prevents unwanted bladder contractions and decreases symptoms of overactive bladder.

Botox injections can also be used to treat pain due to interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) and chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). In these conditions, the Botox injection is not directed into the bladder but into the pelvic region directly.
